Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA, or Eletrobras, is a Brazilian mixed-capital electric company whose largest shareholder is the Government of Brazil. Eletrobras, through its subsidiaries, controls a significant amount of the total power generation, transmission and distribution installed in Brazil. The company operates a portfolio of wind, thermal, hydroelectric and nuclear power plants across the country. The vast majority of total energy produced by Eletrobras comes from its hydroelectric plants. The company's main revenue comes from selling electricity to distribution companies and free consumers. About half of Eletrobras' electricity sales are made through free market contracts, while the other half is concluded through auctions and contracts.
